I held my breath and managed to say before it caught up with me, "What the hell..."
I had dreams of being in a testing room where I was strapped down the ground with my legs and wings spread out and held down with some sort of very strong material. "They" were getting all sorts of tubes and needles of all shapes and sizes as "they" were beginning to start experimenting on me. "Let me go! I'm not some lab rat you can experiment on I'm a sentient being just like you!" I was about to say human being but I had quickly caught myself without showing any sign of messing up my words.
"I'm afraid we can't let you go." One of them said indifferently. "You're the only one of your kind that we know of and we can't let up a discovery like you. Besides, this won't hurt a bit."
"How are you so sure?" I growled. "You're not me and since you're not me you have no idea if this will hurt me or not!"
"Well excuse me Mr. Big-Bad-Dragon of whome doesn't know the difference between comfort and sympathy!"
"Harry, what are you babbling about this time!?" One of the females here yelled to the person who, apparently, was talking to me.
"Nothing..."
"Well then get back to doing something!" She snapped.
"Fine..." Harry got out a spring-loaded needle launcher with a VERY uncomfortably large needle on it.
My eyes grew wide as he began filling it up with some sort of strange, thick liquid that looked like it was the color of the sky. "I'm afraid of needles..." I admitted with a shiver down my spine and tail. I had never been fond of needles. I had never taken a shot for most of my life and I was rarely sick. All of that changed when I had gotten rabies from a dead rabbit I accidentally fell on while walking through a park at the age of 13. I was put in the emergency room and given a rather painful and traumatizing shot in that place and vowed that I would never get another shot for as long as I lived. It looks like it's about to be broken...
"Now WHY would a dragon be afraid of needles if he's never had a shot before?" Harry rubbed his chin.
"Maybe he's not from this planet. I saw a movie on Sci-Fi once where it said that dragons were from outer space." Everyone, including me, just stared at her. "What? It could be true."
"That movie sucked!" I said in growing disbelief. "How on earth could you believe in that movie? It was cheesy and it was a fantasy slash science fiction movie of a television station!" This statement made their jaws drop.
"How in the world could you possibly know about that?" One of the men there asked, suspicious.
"I wasn't always a dragon, I was once human like yourselves." I said with a lowered tone of voice.
"How? There's no science thaat can make you into something else other than what you are. What in God's name are you talking about that could do this to you!?" The man questioned.
"The necklace..." I muttered.
"Excuse me?"
"The necklace." I said a little bit louder.
"I didn't catch that."
"The necklace!" I snapped. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to snap. It's this stupid necklace that I got from a friend online that made me into this...black dragon you now see in front of you." A tear began to fall down my snout. "It's not fair... I had my whole life ahead of me and this cursed thing had to go and ruin it! My humanity stripped from me like an animal being skinned! My whole family even tried to kill me! I'm not a dragon, I'm a fifteen year old human being and my name is-" I froze in my tracks as I searched my memory banks for my human name. My breathing became erratic and I started to shake uncontrollably. "I FORGOT MY OWN NAME!!!" I roared and, unable to contain my loss of my only thing left human that other people could use to know that I was once human, I broke down crying hard enough to hiccup. My roar of pain was loud enough to break some of their instruments.
They just stood there while not knowing what to do. One of the females broke out of their trance and mustered the courage to walk up to me and pat me on my muzzle while trying to calm me down. I gradually calmed down enough to apologise and try to let them understand that I was still getting over turning into what I was. "...You can continue with your tests if you want, I won't complain." They reluctantly continued with their experiments with another batch of machines that replaced the damaged ones. I didn't complain once just like I had promised, not even caring anymore about the needles.
My body was sore after everything was done and not just from having my limbs stretched out. The entirely white room was then left empty except for me as the end of the day came. I saw the world shimmer and everything went black.
I fought the darkness of my mind as I woke up. It seemed that the chloroform or whatever it was had finally worn off. My eyes fluttered as I tried opening my heavy eye lids. "Ah, so he's finally waking up." An elder-like voice proclaimed.
Groaning, I tried to stand up but I fell after getting only an inch above the ground, all with my eyes closed. "Where am I?"
"I wouldn't try to get up if I were you, that was a nasty fall you took."
"Fall?"
"Yes, Flaireonette had dropped you a couple hundred feet when she almost reached here."
"Sorry..." The voice of Flaireonette said in embarrassment.
"This should make you feel somewhat better." The elder-like voice started rubbing something against my back.
"What are you rubbing on my back? It feels...good." A warm, soothing feeling spread around my back. "Mmm..." A smile crept on my face as it comfortably moved across my entire body.
The voice started chuckling slightly at my reaction to this "miracle cream" or whatever it was that was spread on me. "Ah yes, the cold cream we altered from the human design from your world."
"Cold cream?" I questioned, dumbfounded.
"Heh heh, yes cold cream."
"..."
"Wasn't quite what you were expecting now was it?"
"Yeah, it certainly wasn't what I thought it was..."
"Well, you're probably wondering who I am. My name's Firo."
"Sepyronaut, but you can call me Sep or Pyro for short." The cold cream on my back was beginning to get very comfortable.
I tried to open my eyes and succeeded. It turned out to be noon and the air never had so many strange scents in it. Scanning the area that I could see without moving my head, I found myself to be in a huge cave and sitting right next to me were two dragons. The smaller of the two was a pure white dragon that had a concerned look on it and the (much) larger one was a red dragon with black scales underneath it and on it's wing membraine. I suppose the larger one was Firo and the smaller one was Flaireonette. "Can someone tell me what's going on? First I get a necklace, then I get changed into a dragon and almost get killed by my family, THEN I get to the empire state building and almost get killed by a black hole! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!?!?!" I heard a crack in my body as I started yelling and felt a wave of pain.
"I don't think you're ready for what I am about to tell you but I'll say it anyway. Don't you remember when you got that toy dragon of yours, the feelings you felt and the voices you heard while playing with it?"
"Yeah. I remember pretending that I was going on a jouney with it through another realm that had dragons in it and I heard voices as if it was all real. I could even picture everything in my mind as if it were real. Oh, but what do you care? I grew out of it when I was no longer able to imagine everything as it became blurry and scrambled. It was nothing; it was all pretend..."
"On the contrary, it was indeed real. Have you ever noticed that when people are younger their minds are more creative and open?"
"Yeah..." I started remembering my own past as he mentioned this.
"Because their minds are more 'open' to everything they tend to reach other planes of existance or even their inner self (who takes on the form of an animal, existant or not,) in their own minds. But, unfortunately, they almost always lose that ability as they grow older as their minds sacrifice this ability for more room for knowledge and wisdom, this applies to ALL minds. In you're case, however, you're a sort of special case."
"How so?" My head was spinning with confusion as everything I had ever known was starting to get thrown out the window.
"Well since the mind can only hold so much, it tends to throw out their inner self along with it, making them capable to be easily tainted. Without the your inner self to help guide you down the road of life, you're left on your own to make your own decisions. While some people can have a good enough mind to not be tainted, others aren't ready to be taken away from it and you end up with good and evil. But you for whatever reason haven't thrown out your inner self."
"I haven't?" I searched in my mind for something that I haven't noticed before in a while and found something that seemed to be chained up, unable to get free. I tried to break the chains but they were too heavy to even move.
"No. You seem to have him trapped in place but we've been able to get him out you using a special item."
"What item is it?" I asked curiously.
"He obviously doesn't feel like talking since you have him trapped. You are going to have to let us help you get him out because he is a part of you that wants to be free from his shackles."
"You never answered my question. What item is it?"
"Well, isn't it obvious?"
"Not really..."
"You're wearing it. The necklace I gave you." He said with a small dragonish grin.
